People who eat a fried breakfast every day face an elevated risk of bowel cancer, a charity has warned.
Only a third of British people are aware that processed meats increase the risk of bowel cancer.
However, the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) warns that eating 150g of processed meat a day - two sausages and three rashers of bacon - increases a person's risk of bowel cancer by 63 per cent.
The charity suggests that people should consider avoiding processed meats to reduce their risk of bowel cancer.
Medical and scientific adviser Professor Martin Wiseman said: "For some people, having a fry-up with bacon and sausages might seem like a good way to start the day.
"But if you are doing this regularly then you are significantly increasing your risk of bowel cancer."
The expert added: "Scientists estimate about a third of cancers could be prevented by eating healthily, being physically active and maintaining a healthy weight."
Around 36,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in the UK, making it the third most common cancer overall.
